Manifesting the Ideal Job
Okay, let me start by saying that searching for a job through traditional channels rates about as high on my fun-meter as cleaning out the garage. I dreaded this process until I had the epiphany that instead of (cue heavy music) “looking for a job”, I would focus my energy on being receptive to, and excited about, the right job popping up! Once I got over the idea that I was solely responsible for finding my next place to work and acknowledged that I was co–creating with Spirit, the whole process became kind of… dare I say it… fun!
Over the years, I’ve learned to create a list of “I am…” statements about qualities that I’m looking for in a job. I write them all down and review them regularly until I can feel my words become “things” that are just about to manifest in the physical world. I’ve learned to include some whimsical “I am” wishes, with some amazing results.
When I was looking for a Marriage & Family Therapist Internship, I spontaneously included “I am working in a comfortable, home-like environment with a view of the ocean.” “Yeah right, that’ll happen,” I thought sarcastically as I wrote it down. BUT IT DID! I landed a position in a domestic violence shelter that was housed in a cute home up the street from the beach. I literally laughed out loud when I saw that the staff office was a bedroom with an ocean view!
When I outgrew that part-time position and was looking for full-time, I told the Universe that I would like to have a great full-time position handed to me without much effort on my part. Laugh if you will, but I decided that honesty was the best policy. Sure enough, a full-time coworker unexpectedly resigned shortly thereafter. My “interview” for the position took place as my wonderful supervisor and I walked across the parking lot. “Doreen is leaving. Do you know anyone who might be interested in the job?” “Yes, me!” “Really? Great ! You’re hired.” That, my friends, is my idea of job prospecting and an interview!
Another time I was miserable in my job and desperately asked Spirit for a new job to land in my lap and, because I was feeling so low, I asked for the change to be celebrated with flowers. Sure enough, a desireable position in my company that almost never had openings came open a few weeks later. I got the transfer, a huge departing bouquet (from my normally undemonstrative supervisor) and arrived at my new position to a huge vase of flowers on my desk. How fun it was to receive flowers from God — twice!!
My list goes on… Being hired as an assistant to a well-known self-help author; being hired by a highly competitive restaurant that my friends told me “you’ll never get into”; being hired by a more desireable hotel while their reps were attending a function at my current hotel (in another one of those great 30-second interviews!)… It’s sooo much nicer getting jobs this way!
From the bottom of my heart, I encourage you to let yourself be honest and playful as you create a wishlist for your new job or career. You just may end up in a job that you love with flowers on your desk and a view of the ocean!
