Everything is perception
I realized this once again the other day after receiving a rather scary letter from a neighbor. Here’s the thing… some busy little bees ventured into our yard a few years ago and ever since we’ve been eagerly watching them work on their really incredible beehive.
We use a lot of bee products in our household, from beeswax crayons and candles to honey to eating bee pollen as a snack. We love bees. We appreciate them and adore them. We’ve sat for many minutes marveling at their work and watched documentaries and checked out books from the library all about this absolute wonder of nature. When small pieces of the wax would fall off in a storm we brought it into the house and placed it on our nature table. We’ve literally sat in awe of the geometry and exact precision at each individual hexagon. We’ve done geometry lessons off of these little cells that were not nearly as precise as theirs.
And then we got the letter. A caring neighbor noticed the hive! He wrote a detailed letter about his absolute worry and fear that children play in this yard with this very dangerous thing lurking in our tree! He wrote of things he’s watched in the news like, “African killer bees” and “attack.” We all got a very good laugh out of the well-meaning letter, but boy did it bring home the reality that we each create our own realities! eeekkk.
And as always a good reminder of taking a look of where am still operating out of fear rather than appreciation. I am not afraid of bees, but I do have other fears that still lurk in my consciousness. What about you? What are some areas in your life where you are going against the grain of society and choosing appreciation over something our media tells you you should be afraid of?
