Free Hypnosis for our Veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
As far back as I can trace my geneology, the men have served in the military and gone to war. My husband was a Red Beret in the first Gulf War, which shocks people who only know him as the teddy bear he is now. My dad, aka Top Gun Tim, flew Navy jets and was the Commander of his squadron. Both grandfathers served in WWII. We have hand-drawn maps of Civil War camps from one of my great-greats. When we say grace, we ask God to be with all of the men and women that are serving the military of whatever country they are from. Though I have mixed feelings about the military and all that it entails, I have always been incredibly proud of these men in my family, and their willingness to serve an ideal greater than themselves.
When my grandfathers came home from “the war”, there was no awareness of PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). There were no counselors or programs to help them transition back into normal life. There was no cultural awareness that many of these guys needed help — they were just labeled as “never the same after the war.”
I am so, so grateful that times have changed. Well, okay, not enough to eradicate war, but at least enough that our men and women can come home from battle and not be left to suffer their nightmarish thoughts and flashbacks alone. I am so grateful that PTSD is recognized as real, and that the stigma of it as a “sissy disease” is wearing off.
Today I learned of a hypnotherapist, Wendi Friesen, who has posted a free, seven-day hypnosis program for veterans with PTSD on her website. She helps vets, and any military personel, to not only relieve the traumatic symptoms of PTSD, but also to regain the ability to be emotionally close and connected to their family and friends. I love that she’s not just helping them to alleviate pain, but also helping them to reconnect to love.
I encourage you to go to the site and learn more about the journey that led her to create this program, and the heartfelt energy behind her mission. And if you know any vets, please, please, pass the link on to them. (You don’t necessarily have to tell them that you found her link via a website called The Metaphysical Mamas though. That might be a bit fluffy for some of our vets - LOL!)
As all of those bumper-stickers and ribbon-shaped car magnets remind us, “God Bless Our Troops”!!
